Adapting to RA

I have two Physical Therapists –one does lymph-massage and physical therapy, the other does Feldenkrais bodywork and trigger point therapy as well as joint manipulation. PT1 did extra lymph massage on my left arm today, as the glands under my arm were swollen – again. Not hot and sore, like in the past, but swollen. She also did an amazing joint manipulation on my shoulder. It all felt wonderful. My hand and arm have felt great all day.

I’m learning to observe all my movements throughout the day, and find ways to make them easier. Pushing the elevator button with my car key, using the handicap stall in the lady’s room, because the latch is easier to open, turning the water fountain on with the side of my arm instead of my hand. It’s difficult to learn these new ways, but soon they become habits, and they are helping to keep my joints happier.

I used the handicap automatic door-opening button for the first time today. It made getting in and out with the new rolling briefcase easier, and I didn’t have to use my hands. I feel so silly when I use these adaptations, but keep reminding myself that I can then do more of the things that have actual value to me!

My darling oldest daughter is here for a visit, so my time to post will be limited.
