Weaving my way around Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Handicapped Who? Me????

Joint Report

Still at baseline; overall a 1, with pinky fingers, little toes, balls of feet a 2. Stiffness in the morning and if I sit too long.  Left hand is still better than right!

Joint Protection

Knees, ankles, back get stiff when I sit on the bed and type on the computer. Moving the computer to a stool, so that it is at the correct height for my arms and allows me to sit up straight has helped. PT2 wants me to avoid  keeping my chin down, like I do if I lounge against the pillows in bed to read or use the computer. So now all my reading is at the table, with a bookstand. I bought a cheap plastic one two years ago when my DeQuervain’s was so bad I couldn’t hold a book.  I broke it once, and now have to glue it back together every so often. Guess it’s time to get a high quality one, and save the plastic one for travel. I need to look for one that is sturdy, big enough for magazines, and can handle thick hardback books.

My handicapped hangtag came yesterday. It’s on my desk. Guess I’ll put it in my car today – baby steps.  My feet are doing so well, I don’t need it now, but just two short weeks ago I could barely walk up the hill for 3 blocks to my car at the end of the day. RA comes so quickly, like a tornado, it spins through my life with little warning, and leaves devastation that takes all my time and attention.
